During the basketball season, there was a new Instagram page called “phsgatorade,” which our players created. They rate Gatorade that is prepared by Dawson Weber. The Gatorade gets made during his 6th hour when he tutors for Mr. Uppena.
The Instagram account was created on January 13th when they started rating Gatorade. The players were giving the Gatorade good ratings and they thought they should share it with the school and others, so they created an Instagram account. They got the idea of rating Gatorade at the start of the basketball season because they started rating it as a team and wanted to share their thoughts with the school.
The Instagram page is all about the flavor of the Gatorade and the rating of the Gatorade made for the game. The players and coaches all participate in rating the Gatorade before the game. “It started off as just for fun, but then started getting serious,” said Dawson. They even had a player serve a suspension from voting on the page. He cheated in the voting, and the team agreed that he had to serve a suspension.
The most popular flavor was “Good Ol’ Grape” with an average rating of 9.32 out of 10, and the other favorite flavor was “Frape”, which was grape and fruit punch flavors mixed together, with an average of 9.2. “Frape and Good Ol' Grape were the most popular flavors of the players and coaches,” said Dawson.
Each post has a unique song that goes with every post to reflect the feel of each game. “I usually post after the games at my kitchen table,” said Dawson. An example of the music on the posts was when they hit a record high for Gatorade ratings, and they played “Hollaback Girl”, or when they get a bad Gatorade rating, Dawson played "Oops, I Made a Mistake" over the post.
The Potosi Gatorade page was started at the beginning of the basketball season and will hopefully become a tradition carried on by next year's basketball team.
