Students have been complaining that senioritis is a real condition and it has been affecting them severely. Senioritis is said to be an affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation and performance. Is senioritis a real thing, or are seniors just saying that they have it?

Senior Oliver Post says that he doesn’t really have senioritis. He also says that he doesn’t believe that it is real, and students are using it as an excuse to be lazy. Oliver has a busy schedule, stays active, and gets his work done. He said, “I think that the reason that some might feel like they have senioritis is because sports are done, and they are just looking forward to college. For those who play three sports in the year, there isn’t a big break between them, and it keeps everyone busy.” He believes that people still have the effort to give, they just don’t care anymore, and it can affect their grades. Oliver is looking forward to school being done, but not any more than he has in the past.

Senior Dawson Weber has some different thoughts about senioritis. Dawson believes that senioritis is real and that it can have effects on seniors. Dawson doesn’t have anything to look forward to in school besides baseball because of how well he is able to get his homework done ahead of time. He said, “I am ahead in all of my classes and I don’t have much to do.” Dawson also agrees that being in sports can have an impact on how people feel. Being in sports gives students something to look forward to and work for, and not being in them gives them more of a reason to want to be out of school sooner. Not wanting to be at school can make it so that they don’t do any work at school, which causes grades to go down. Dawson is looking forward to getting out of school and heading into summer.

So, is senioritis real? The answer is yes and no. It can be something seniors use as an excuse for how they are feeling and how they are doing in school. The seniors who choose not to believe in it and not to blame it can be more motivated and have better mindsets. Those who choose to believe in it and blame it really only use it as an excuse. They could be doing better in school, but they aren’t because they believe in senioritis. Making a change in your mindset can be hard, but worth it if you want to do better but just can’t.
