“I felt a crack and knew something wasn't good.”

Kolton Vogelsberg is a Junior at Potosi. He plays basketball, baseball, and football. This year during a basketball game against Platteville, Kolton was driving into the paint to get a bucket. As he was driving, he felt his knee give out. After the incident, Kolton hobbled into the training room where the other team's trainer evaluated him. The trainer told him what Kolton didn’t want to hear.

Kolton had to schedule an X-ray first before getting an MRI. After getting the X-Ray,  Kolton was scheduled for an MRI. When he got the result, it showed that he had torn both his ACL and his MCL. This was terrible news for Kolton, and he obviously didn't take it lightly. He knew the seriousness of his situation so he knew he had to have a positive outlook on it.

“Showtime” tore his ACL on December 17, 2024, against Platteville High School. Kolton did not have surgery until January 6, 2025. He got a patellar tendon graft, where they take a part of the patellar tendon and replace the torn ACL with the patellar tendon. Kolton is now nine weeks out of surgery and is on the road to a speedy and healthy recovery.

Kolton will have to do physical therapy for his knee for the next couple of months. This involves extensive biking, weight lifting, and agility training in order to get back to 100%.

This injury will severely affect the Potosi-Cassville baseball team. Kolton was the team's number-one pitcher, but now his shoes will need to be filled. Big adjustments will have to be made for the team as “Showtime” finished with a 1.76 ERA (Earned Runs Average) last season, as well as a .369 batting average. These are very impressive stats, and the team will be affected by his absence. Senior Dawson Weber had this to say about it: “Showtime was a big loss as he was our number one pitcher coming into the season. People like me, and others like Nolan Pierce will have to step up and take responsibility.” Kolton is on the road to recovery and he is getting ready for his senior year of sports.
