When you picture a high school, you think about students walking from class to class, joking with their friends, and wearing a backpack. Backpacks have always been a part school and not just for bringing stuff to and from home. They are also used to carry things in school as well. Students use them to carry their folders, books, laptops, and notebooks. Not everyone uses backpacks to take their belongings from class to class. Is it helpful to take your backpack to class? Is it more convenient? More efficient? Are they in the way? Let's see what students and teachers have to say about having backpacks in class.
Oliver Post is one student who brings his backpack with him to class. He said that it is super convenient to have his backpack because he never has to worry about forgetting anything in his locker and he always has all of his stuff. Kyler Hefty, another student who brings his backpack to class, said, “It is just way more convenient and efficient and it is what works for me.” When asked if there were any downsides to having his backpack, Kyler responded with, “It can be heavy sometimes, but no, there aren’t really any downsides.”
Mr. Fry, Potosi’s High School English teacher, also saw the positives to students having backpacks in class. Mr. Fry said that most of the time he never notices them and it doesn’t bother him at all. When asked if there are any downsides to having backpacks, Mr. Fry responded by saying, “I understand that people have to go all around the building and I would rather have them have a backpack than have to carry a big stack of stuff.” The only thing that worried him was that backpacks could potentially be a tripping hazard, but students usually have them sitting under their chairs. If they are sitting out and if Mr. Fry is paying attention, it should not be a problem for him.
Students having backpacks is very convenient and efficient. Maybe more people should bring their backpacks to class. Maybe that could be a problem. Right now, school policy says that there should be no backpacks unless you have an injury or an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). So far this year, there have been no problems with allowing more backpacks and there shouldn’t be any problem with them in the future.
