Hunter White is a fifteen-year-old freshman who is making big leaps on the Potosi-Cassville track team. He is in his very first season of competing in track. He chose to go out for track because he wanted to stay in shape for football. He says the only downfall of being on track is he can’t lift as much as he wants. So far, Hunter enjoys track because he gets to leave school early and it keeps him in shape for football. He also says he has met many new people and has gained a lot of new friends.

The track team is having a lot of fun and a lot of success. The coaches are very impressed with the kids and how they have come together as a team this year. The coaches believe that Hunter has the potential to be an outstanding track athlete in the future. They are looking forward to watching him progress into one of their star athletes.

Hunter has participated in the Pole vault, the open 400 meters, the 4x200 meter relay, and the 4x400 meter relay. Out of the events he participates in, he has broken school records in the 4x400 relay. Most recently he has broken the school record for pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, and his 4x200 team made it to sectionals.

Before events, he prepares by warming up and setting himself up for a good mindset. Otherwise, he says he will not do as well as he wants to. His biggest motivation is his family, specifically his mom and dad, Heather & Mike White because he knows they will be proud of him and he likes to see them happy.

One of Hunter’s coaches, Mr.Serres, says he is doing extremely well for a freshman. Serres says Hunter is a hard worker, very determined, and has a lot of grit. The coaches have been very impressed with how well he has progressed, saying Hunter is very coachable. He has already broken the school record in the pole vault, and he has also been very instrumental in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays, and has been their top 400m runner this season.

Hunter’s most memorable track experience was at a Platteville indoor meet when he had to pole vault for the first time and cleared 7 feet. His future goal in track is to win state for pole vault and he plans to reach his goal by practicing and running faster.
