In every classic teenage movie, there is always a big summer blowout before the graduating seniors leave for college. Whether their plans are a road trip to the beach or binge-watching their favorite shows, every senior has one last summer before college. How will the class of 2024 spend their summers?

I interviewed three seniors of the Potosi High School Class of 2024 –  Marah Vogelsberg, Natalee Fried, and Gavin Wunderlin. These seniors took time to share what they are planning to do with their last high school summer.

Marah Vogelsberg shared that she plans on spending the summer working while having fun. This summer she will be working at the brewery as a server, as well as helping coach t-ball for the elementary students. Vogelsberg explained that, “working with the younger kids is so uplifting because it helps me share my love for softball with them.” In addition to coaching and serving, Marah plans to check off some bucket list items by taking a vacation. This summer Marah will be attending a family vacation with her boyfriend, Gavin, and his family. On this vacation, they plan to spend time traveling to South Carolina, while making stops at memorable landmarks along the way. This summer Vogelsberg also plans to attend several concerts; she said, “I’m super excited to go to the Morgan Wallen concert!” In addition to her fun summer plans, she also hopes to get a tattoo. “Although I’m not quite sure what I want yet, I know I want it to be memorable and do something with my family,” said Vogelsberg.

Natalee Fried shared that she wants to spend her summer primarily working. Fried currently works in activity at Orchard Manor in Lancaster, Wisconsin, but plans to get her CNA over the summer as well. Natalee shared that she plans to spend a lot of time on the boat fishing – an activity she enjoys greatly. A bucket list item getting checked off this summer for her is taking a road trip with her boyfriend’s family; they plan to travel to Orlando, Florida while making stops at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky. Natalee said, “On vacation, I am super excited to go to Universal Studios and lay out on the beach.” Before summer is over, she also plans on getting more tattoos that express her and show her close relationships with both her sister and mom. Fried also explained that she wants to spend time with her best friend, Marah Vogelsberg, before they both start their college journeys. Natalee and Marah plan on kayaking a lot this summer; Fried said, “There is nothing better than floating on the water with your bestie”.

Gavin Wunderlin explained that his summer will consist of hanging out with friends, working, fishing, and playing basketball. While Wunderlin gears up for college, he will continue to work out and play basketball in order to be ready for his freshman season at Edgewood College. He will also be playing in the Six Rivers Division 5 All-Star game with other boys basketball athletes on the Six Rivers West team. Wunderlin said, “I am excited to play in the All-Star game, because now I get to play with guys from other teams, and we get to show our skills in a different atmosphere.” Before college, Gavin plans to work enough so he is able to relax and focus on basketball and his schoolwork during college.

As these seniors, and the rest of the PHS Class of 2024, head into their last summer before adulthood we wish them nothing but luck, happiness and a fun-filled summer. Hopefully, these seniors get their movie-worthy last summer doing what they love before their next adventure begins.
