Marah and Gavin

As it gets to the end of the school year, the seniors of Potosi High School have to start preparing for college. Some of the seniors are nervous about starting college, but they are also very excited.

Marah Vogelsberg, a senior at Potosi High School, plans to “major in Psychology at UW- Whitewater. Ooo! Aww!” as she put it. While she gets her psychology degree, she plans to minor in criminology.  Marah thinks that her major is going to be stressful, but also very rewarding and manageable.  Marah is nervous about the time away from home as she has never spent that much time away from home before. Marah has been trying to prepare for college by making sure all of her deposits are paid for and contracts are signed. She has scheduled times for her classes and picked out her roommate, whom she likes very much. She thinks that her roommate and she will get along great. Lastly, Marah has been taking Southwest Tech College classes already, so she can get into her psychology major.

Natalie Fried, another senior at Potosi High School, plans to major in nursing at Northeast Iowa Community College. Natalie thinks that her major will be very stressful because you have to take certain classes before you get into the nursing program. You have to take and pass a Hesi exam which is a nursing exam that is not a traditional pass/fail exam. It gives you a numerical score between 100-1000. The higher the number, the better you perform on the exam that you take to get into the nursing program. Lastly, you have to take your nursing boards, which can get you to be an LPN which stands for a licensed practical nurse is a health care professional responsible for basic patient care and comfort, or an RN which stands for registered nurse who provides and coordinates patient care and educates patients and the public about various health conditions.

Natalie says “Amen!” because she knows it is going to be stressful and difficult. Natalie is a little nervous and dosen’t really know how it is going to go because it is nursing school. Natalie has been preparing for college by focusing on getting her CNA once she graduates. She plans on doing some prerequisite classes to get into nursing school. This summer and during college, she plans on working and plans on saving money to help pay for her college tuition and living expenses.
