Anyone who has been keeping up to date with the current trends, or who attends Potosi High School, knows that there has recently been a craze with water bottles. These water bottles, commonly the Stanley or Owala branded ones, can be seen in almost any teenage girl's hand in the hallways. These water bottles became popular over the summer and the beginning of this year. The question between these basic items is, which is better, the Stanley or the Owala?

The Stanley craze has boosted the company's sales from $75,000 to $750,000 per year. They have also sold more than 10 million “quenchers”.  These water bottles average $45 per bottle, which may seem like a lot to some, but senior Natalee Fried says, “It’s worth it to spend that much on a bottle you’re going to be using for a long time.” Though the price is worth the product, the bottle does come with its downfalls. Junior Madi Weber claimed that the Stanley is heavy, hard to clean, and is not leakproof. These qualities can be a dealbreaker for some, but not for Nova White. White says she enjoys the bottle because of the straw feature. Although the Owala does not come with a straw, it has its own perks.

The Owala Free Sip bottle comes with a “sip and chug” feature, meaning it has a built-in straw for sipping, but can still fully close. This keeps the bottle from leaking. The fact that it does not leak is one reason why Weber loves the bottle so much. She said that the bottle is “good for softball season” because of the fact it does not leak. This makes the bottle the perfect on-the-go choice, even though it does not fit in cup holders.

After conducting interviews with multiple girls who own both products, the overall winner was the Owala. The Owala won because of its leakproof features and closed lid. Weber stated that the Owala was the clear winner for her because a spider was able to find its way into her Stanley due to the open straw. So if you’re stuck trying to make the decision of which trending bottle to buy, the Owala takes the cake according to Potosi High School students.
